Cretan dakos
Barley rusk topped with grated tomato, feta, olives, onion and Cretan olive oil.
A small family taverna tucked in a quiet alley of the old town. Honest Cretan dishes, charcoal-grilled meat and fresh fish, and a welcome that makes you feel at home.
Diporto is a small family taverna in the old town of Rethymno, set in a narrow stone alley with tables out under the open sky.
We cook the way Cretan home kitchens always have — a handful of good ingredients, plenty of local olive oil, and time. Most days you'll find dishes simmering in the pot and fresh fish and meat over the charcoal, with the day's specials on the board.
Pull up a chair, order a carafe of house wine or raki, and stay a while.
A taste of what we cook. The full menu — and the day's specials — wait for you at the taverna.

Barley rusk topped with grated tomato, feta, olives, onion and Cretan olive oil.

Pork or chicken from the spit, in warm pita with tomato and chips.

Souvlaki, chops and the catch of the day, grilled over coals.

Slow-cooked classics: stifado, moussaka and stuffed vegetables.

Octopus, calamari and whatever the boats bring in.

Baklava and homemade sweets to finish the meal.
Here, guests are treated like family.
No rush, no fuss — just good food and good company, the way it has always been.
